The government has this week confirmed that CE marking recognition for energy-related products (ErPs) regulated under Ecodesign rules will extend to cover new EU regulations made under the Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation (ESPR).
For manufacturers, this means no new conformity process to plan for in the short term, and no changes to current HETAS certification processes.
What this means for manufacturers
There are two important changes this means:
- CE marking stays recognised in Great Britain for ErPs, including products regulated under ESPR, in the same way it already applies under the current Ecodesign Regulations.
- A Statutory Instrument will be laid in summer 2026 to make the change. The practical effect begins in 2027, once the first ESPR ecodesign regulations start applying in the EU.
Northern Ireland continues to follow EU rules directly – this extension applies in England, Scotland, and Wales. This also means that no changes are needed for HETAS certification processes, including Cleaner Choice and HETAS approval.
